McClish boasts an abundance of style and color with its music and singing. This Pop tune opens with a trombone soloing smoothly over a sultry, mid tempo groove. Duane Benjamin - Round Midnight Today Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Funk R&B California, United States Overall Impression: Whilst there is obviously a myriad of different ways in which a piece of music may connect with a listener, when it comes to the world of jazz and funk fusion I often ask myself one very simple question, does this inspire me to pick up an instrument and play? And as I keep a guitar by my side more or less throughout the day in the hope that a sudden nugget of inspiration may come my way, I found myself reaching for it mere seconds into Duane Benjamin's awe-inspiring jazz-funk extravaganza, "Round Midnight Today". Duane Benjamin offers listeners a truly dazzling display of sheer musical maturity and feel-infused virtuosic performances that feels both fresh and truly exciting, not only does "Round Midnight Today" showcase both fantastic melodic and harmonic intrigue throughout but Duane's inspiring blend of genres makes for one exceedingly fascinating listening experience, one that I will have on repeat for the foreseeable future. Strongest Point(s): Whilst the track is clearly rooted in jazz and funk fusion, the inclusion of hip-hop elements really helps add an extra dose of excitement and unexpectedness to the track that allows it to adopt a truly unique sense of character. The performances are quite simply exceptional and Duane clearly knows how to get the very best from his musicians, the sheer chemistry between them is utterly compelling and an absolute joy to listen to. Duane Benjamin - All Blues Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Funk R&B California, United States Overall Impression: A veteran of the Jazz scene, Duane Benjamin brings years of experience and expertise in the creation of his new Jazz tune All Blues. A masterclass in groove and taste, the opening bass solo in All Blues grabs attention with its energy, tone, and fine intonation. The quick tempo keeps listeners on their toes, but all of the performers find the pocket and control the energy to build a captivating listening experience. A Big Band tune, All Blues features a killer trumpet solo and exquisite vocals. There is never a dull moment and each player brings their "A" game. Lyrically, All Blues pays tribute to Miles Davis and his groundbreaking album Kind Of Blue. Respectful and with a sense of discovery, they explain how we all are continuing down the path laid down by Davis. While All Blues does pay its dues, Duane Benjamin and his band deserve credit for their fine work on this fantastic new Jazz tune. Strongest Point(s): There are many strong points with All Blues. The players all perform exceptionally well, and the composition itself is endlessly captivating. But what really drives the piece home is how it steeps itself in the history of Jazz and Blues. It adds its own twists and turns, but still honors the legends that created the art form. Target Audience Appeal: Fans of Contemporary Jazz and Big Band will certainly enjoy All Blues by Duane Benjamin, but even more conservative Jazz fans will appreciate the work that has been done here. Eric Roberts - Cella’s Song Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Brazilian Colorado, United States Overall Impression: Seasoned composer and guitarist Eric Roberts delivers an exquisitely serene listening experience with "Celia's Song", a piece dedicated to his wife that was first included on his 2001 album release, In a Silent Place. Relaxing and meditative, this track features delicate classical guitar with only soft, warm synths providing subtle harmonic reinforcement. The beauty here lies within the simple melodies and stirring jazz progressions, as Roberts forgoes flash in favor of form, save for a few well timed scalar flourishes. The spartan nature of Eric Roberts' "Celia's Song" recalls the soft jazz and new age sound of the popular Windham Hill recordings of the 1980s and 90s, and should appease audiences with it's peaceful and calming qualities. Strongest Point(s): Excellent production, nice mix. Truly a gorgeous composition. Beautiful melodies in the top lines, ample accompaniment in the rhythm figure. Absolutely brilliant and original turn around, never heard that one used before. The synth sits well in the mix, and does a really nice job of adding to the harmonic foundation without overpowering the guitar. Outstanding touch and tone that's inherent in your playing, great understated vibrato. Finally, I loved that borrowed chord at the very end, it's a wonderful cherry on top. Phenomenal compositition and performance, fantastic piece of work. Carpool manage to forge a sound that's just as exquisite as it is accessible. Be sure to check out "La Luna Negra" in addition to L.A. Carpool's other exceptional work, available on all major platforms. Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Great tonal balance, everything sits fairly well in the mix. Amazing energy, on all fronts. Vocals sound fantastic, both the lead and the background vox. Wonderful passion and spirit on the lead vocal performance. Stellar rhythm section, that groove is breathtaking. Nice arrangement. The piano solo is well placed and I love that little hang, on the final chord of the song. The church bell on "the bell began to toll" was a nice touch of sound design, as were the wind chimes on "the music casts its spell." Great cohesive, full ensemble sound. Simply a magnificent job all around, by everyone involved. Doug Gazlay - Dirty Rocker Pop, Rock, Smooth Jazz, Dance Georgia, United States Overall Impression: Playing well with the dichotomy between the spiritual freedom experienced by Rock musicians and the perceived sacrilege of the form as reported by the religious crowd, Doug Gazlay delivers the entertaining and anthemic original track "Dirty Rocker"! Grungy guitar tones and a classic backbeat are enhanced by bright horns and a gravelly vocal performance from Gazlay as he speaks directly to the "Dirty Rocker" that lies dormant in us all. Strongest Point(s): Having recreated the traditional Rock format entirely with synthetic tones and an electric keyboard, the overall experience contained in "Dirty Rocker" is brilliantly representative of the genre and surprisingly immersive - with the vocal performances from Doug Gazlay and Jennifer Ferren conspiring to fully sell the vibe! Lyrically, the song is a clever love letter to the Rock scene with resonant references to parental dismissal and Satanic panic - promising to strike a chord among anyone with first or even secondhand experience of the same! Target Audience Appeal: Conjuring images of Rock & Roll rebellion and a passion for the craft, Doug Gazlay's "Dirty Rocker" works well as a standalone song but practically begs for a fuller narrative! Entertaining in its own right, "Dirty Rocker" sounds as though it could fit well into a tongue-in-cheek Rock Opera about life as a defiant suburban troubadour - prompting eager ears towards whatever Gazlay produces next! - Jon W. Darryl Jackson - What I'm Saying Jazz, Smooth Jazz, Spa Washington, United States Overall Impression: "What I'm Saying" is an exciting new release from veteran musician/composer/producer Darryl Jackson. The highly skilled multi-instrumentalist not only plays every instrument on this track, he also performs all the vocals and self produced this energetic folk rock number that's tinged with jazz influences and prog rock elements. The result is a polished and highly focused piece of song craft that features a driving rhythm section and some stellar displays of musicianship, particularly evidenced by the piano flourishes and brilliant guitar leads that perfectly complement Jackson's weathered vocal style. Darryl Jackson's "What I'm Saying" should have very little difficulty finding an audience among classic pop/rock fans, thanks to its high quality and timeless sound. Strongest Point(s): Excellent production, solid mix with some old school eq and compression techniques. Great arrangement, has a really nice subtle build to it that you achieved through intensification and addition, particularly with the synth strings (which I thought added a lot to the overall sound here, and contributed greatly to the song's character). Then a nice little breather with the solo piano section, before bringing it back in for the final chorus. Overall, it has a nice dynamic "shape" to it. Some fantastic playing here, on all fronts. One huge benefit to tracking all the instruments yourself, is the ability to easily lock into the groove. The vocals sound good, particularly the harmonies. Gives it that full ensemble sound that's highly effective at the end. An outstanding track, all around. Really fine job! Bethani - Sweet Darkness Pop, Smooth Jazz, Meditation Texas, United States Overall Impression: “Sweet Darkness” is the latest single from the artist Bethani. With words by the poet David Whyte, and the music composed by Dave Morgan, Bethani brings us an expressive mix of smooth jazz, new age and spiritual music. Her passion for music is evident in "Sweet Darkness" and you can tell she takes pride and joy in just reveling in the creative process. This song is a must for listeners who prefer the softer more introspective side of music and those who appreciate reflective, spiritual and meditative qualities. Bethani’s has a well-trained voice that is versatile and infinitely appealing. Her voice is sweet, soft, soulful and dreamy. Instrumentally, the jazzy notes of the guitar linger in your memory, almost as much as the long-drawn-out notes as the music itself, making it sexy and seductive, especially with combination of the electric guitar and bass.
