Peter Lewis - The Still Small Voice World, Contemporary, Smooth Maryland, United States Overall Impression: Having reviewed a prior Peter Lewis's tune already, the equally enticing smooth jazz fusion piece "Just As Sure", I looked forward to hearing what Peter had cooked up next, and I'm glad to say that all the elements I had found so enduring in that first track have not only been carried over but further developed and stylishly enhanced. Boasting some truly scintillating instrumental interplay and performances that feel both organic and mature in their approach, "The Still Small Voice" is a sleek and classy piece of instrumental writing that offers listeners the unmistakable snazzy sounds of the jazz flute, plenty of groove-rich walking bass lines, tasteful guitar work, and one increasingly dapper melody after the other, what more could you possibly want in a smooth Jazz tune? Strongest Point(s): As with any Peter Lewis tune, th...

Harriet Chung - Place for Dreams Pop, Jazz, World Toronto, Canada Overall Impression: Harriet Chung takes listeners on a dramatic journey with her new song Place For Dreams. Supported by flamenco stylings and flashy guitars, Place For Dreams emits a red hot warmth that consumes all of its surroundings. This new Pop tune is permeated by an undeniable sense of drama. It would find a suitable home in the theater under dazzling lights. The melodies push and pull with emotion, holding the listener close and stealing every ounce of their attention. Harriet Chung sings beautifully, and completely invests herself into the work. She has a charisma that commands the space and delivers an engaging performance. Lyrically, Place For Dreams is the story of a love that can no longer be. The heart aches as the fire of a forbidden romance dwindles and is extinguished. It is clear that Place For Dreams by Harriet Chung is designed to grab the listener's emotions, and it does s...

Donna Greenberg - Slumber Caresses Your Eyes Pop, Adult Contemporary, World Toronto, Canada Overall Impression: I've been fortunate enough to have had the great pleasure of experiencing Donna Greenberg's captivating vocal style before, specifically in Edmund Fairfax's gothic-language-based "Baris Standith", a beautiful A Cappella arrangement that showcased Donna's truly engrossing vocal style and rich timbral characteristics, and having listened to a "Slumber Caresses Your Eyes" a few times now, I can see why I was so intrigued when I saw Donna's name appear again. Both wonderfully performed and superbly written, "Slumber Caresses Your Eyes" is the type of track that is just so easy to get swept up by, and whether it's the warm enveloping textures, sweeping melodic phrases, or utterly divine vocal performance at its heart, this is a piece of songwriting that boasts both striking maturity and elegance, resultin...

Miguel Angel Alvarado - Gravity World, Inspirational, Religious Pennsylvania, United States Overall Impression: Miguel Angel Alvarado has released his new cover of Gravity by Sara Bareilles. Employing guitars and strings, this new version of Gravity features more colors and a bigger sound than the original. The intimate moments still remain, but this version grows and blossoms into its own identity. Alvorado manages to grasp the emotion and drama that makes up the essence of the song. In parallel with the lyrics, he pushes and pulls his conviction for a performance that is very alive. As the tune progresses, Gravity is layered with vocal lines and a thicker orchestration. It is in this moment that Alvarado's version shines and his artistry is put on full display. Overall, this new version of Gravity performed by Miguel Angel Alvarado is an enjoyable listen that has plenty new to offer while still honoring the original. Strongest Point(s): Alvarado's s...

Peter Lewis - Tears of Havana World, Contemporary, Smooth Maryland, Netherlands Overall Impression: With a hot Latin flair, Tears of Havana by Peter Lewis dances its way onto the airwaves. This new instrumental track moves confidently at a moderate tempo and fits well in the Latin and World Music genres. Missing no opportunity, the trumpet captures the spotlight with the melody and rings loudly and proudly. Peter Lewis makes sure the melody is catchy, simple, and spicy enough to stick with the listener. Fans of Lewis's work will have come to expect this, as it is quickly becoming a signature part of his sound. The rhythm section holds down a stellar groove, and allows both the flute and trumpet to have their moments on center stage. As the tune progresses, a gradual build up captivates and convinces the listener to move and dance. With the release of Tears of Havana, Peter Lewis stretches his artistry into new territory and does so quite effectively. Stro...

Theta - Street World, New Age Lleida, Spain Overall Impression: Thoroughly absorbing and bursting with a level of intensity that grips you from the very beginning all the way to the very end, "Short" is a cavalcade of melodic intensity and textural exploration that fuses cacophonous sound design elements, anxiety-inducing melodic ferocity, and tense harmonic exploration to great effect. Theta displays a clear passion for orchestral music and has creatively arranged this powerful sounding composition in a way that ensures listeners are kept continually captivated throughout. Strongest Point(s): This is a strikingly intense composition, and this certainly works in the track's favor. The use of chromaticism and clashing tones is well implemented and really helps give "Short" its tense and hard-hitting edge. The instrumentation is well-chosen and brilliantly diverse, the combination of piercing strings, haunting choir, flamboyant brass, mil...

Harriet Chung - Vancouver Pop, Jazz, World Torronto, Canada Overall Impression: Internationally renowned artist Harriet Chung gives yet again another powerhouse of a performance in George Chiang's brilliantly arranged and strikingly majestic "Vancouver", a song made of beautiful vocal layers, tender piano progressions, and delicate strings, not to mention some soaring guitar work thrown in for good measure. With its wonderfully written lyrics and fantastical sense of melody, "Vancouver" is a track that listeners will easily fall in love with. Strongest Point(s): This is a particularly strong arrangement that's made even better by the diverse instrumentation that fills it. SUPA PHILLY - Look to the Sky-Philly Mix Pop, Rock, World Pennsylvania, United States Overall Impression: Recently reunited Philadelphia rockers Supa Philly deliver a majestic remix of their decades old "Look to the Sky." Originally performed in 1978, this track encapsulates the "full band" orchestrated sound that was so prevalent in the progressive rock of the era, and carries with it a triumphant air of grandeur that's sorely missing in most of the contemporary pop/rock popular today. "Look to the Sky" conveys an interesting message of achieving utopia as a result of extra-terrestrial intervention, quite fitting for the otherworldly instrumentation and epic arrangement that's highlighted by some wonderful group vocal harmonies. Fans of classic and prog rock, particularly 70's era bands like Queen and Boston, absolutely need to check out Supa Philly's "Look to the Sky", they will not be disappointed. St...

Pesky Kidd - Hope and Strength World, Rock, Celtic Ohio, United States Overall Impression: Whilst "The Ghost" certainly fits well within the world of Celtic rock, there's something refreshingly restrained about this offering by 9 Castle Close. A great deal of Celtic rock, whilst still very well done, can often lean maybe a bit too heavily into its Celtic inspirations, often feeling more like a pastiche affair rather than an authentic representation of what the genre is really all about, instead, 9 Castle Close opts for a more subdued use of its Celtic inspired elements, which in turn, heightens the effectiveness of the writing substantially. The gentle implementation of the fiddle combined with the track's rockier elements allows "The Ghost" to strike the perfect middle ground, presenting listeners with subtle Celtic flavors that help to complement the track's rockier foundations brilliantly. Strongest Point(s): Opening with a ...
