SUPA PHILLY - Look to the Sky-Philly Mix
Pop, Rock, World
Pennsylvania, United States
Overall Impression: Recently reunited Philadelphia rockers Supa Philly deliver a majestic remix of their decades old "Look to the Sky." Originally performed in 1978, this track encapsulates the "full band" orchestrated sound that was so prevalent in the progressive rock of the era, and carries with it a triumphant air of grandeur that's sorely missing in most of the contemporary pop/rock popular today. "Look to the Sky" conveys an interesting message of achieving utopia as a result of extra-terrestrial intervention, quite fitting for the otherworldly instrumentation and epic arrangement that's highlighted by some wonderful group vocal harmonies. Fans of classic and prog rock, particularly 70's era bands like Queen and Boston, absolutely need to check out Supa Philly's "Look to the Sky", they will not be disappointed.
Strongest Point(s): Excellent production, solid mix. Stunning arrangement, super compelling. Love the intro, nice use of foley and the vocal filter sounds great. Nice aggressive guitar tones. Drums have good thump. Piano cuts through nicely. Synths sound great. Incredibly engaging chord progression, little touches like that major seventh add such lovely color. Was really blown away by the vocals, both the lead and the group singing towards the end. There's an almost gospel quality about it. The sci-fi lyrical themes are wholly entertaining, and a nice change of pace. Also somewhat indicative of the era and genre. The title phrase "look to the sky" makes for a brilliant hook, one that will stay with listeners for an extended period of time. Overall it's an outstanding track, and one that serves as a sort of a delightful time capsule, both for the artists and the listeners. Fantastic work here, by everyone involved.
