Overall Impression: Internationally renowned artist Harriet Chung gives yet again another powerhouse of a performance in George Chiang's brilliantly arranged and strikingly majestic "Vancouver", a song made of beautiful vocal layers, tender piano progressions, and delicate strings, not to mention some soaring guitar work thrown in for good measure. With its wonderfully written lyrics and fantastical sense of melody, "Vancouver" is a track that listeners will easily fall in love with.
Strongest Point(s): This is a particularly strong arrangement that's made even better by the diverse instrumentation that fills it. There's a great deal of timbral diversity on display throughout "Vancouver" and this helps craft some brilliantly detailed textures that provide plenty of varied tonal color, helping to further compliment Harriet's expressive vocal qualities substantially. From the strong feeling of grandeur that's achieved, courtesy of the wonderfully rich vocal layering, to the strong harmonic elements that underpin the track, "Vancouver" offers listeners a great deal of sonic excitement that is a joy to get swept up in. It's also worth pointing out how well the modulation works at 2:00, not only is it well implemented but this stark yet effective deviation from the song's main musical road is an excitingly daring risk that if not done correctly could have felt rather disjointed, however, it proves to be a welcome momentary departure that raises energy levels even further with some dazzling virtuoso lead guitar and added melodic fire.
Target Audience Appeal: "Vancouver" has a great classic pop song sound to it and I'm sure fans of the genre will find it to be a highly enjoyable listening experience.
