SONG REVIEW ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“ Brenton Crozier - Labs

radioairplay.com independent new music

Brenton Crozier - Labs
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Electronic, Indie
Florida, United States

Overall Impression: Dripping with both style and a profound sense of creative flair, Brenton Crozier's genre-bending electronica extravaganza "Labs" is a fantastically epic-in-scope piece of indie-infused electronica that combines strong alternative leanings with clearly distinct visionary concepts. With its excellent use of retro-inspired synth elements and prog-like textural explorations, "Labs" invites listeners into its multicolored creative world of intriguing melodic forays and sonic exuberance, serving as an exciting musical expedition that is an absolute joy to get lost in.

Strongest Point(s): The sheer amount of diverse sounds on offer is superb. The timbral and tonal variation on display is abundant and ensures listeners have plenty to sink their teeth into. All these wonderfully distinct sounds have been both brilliantly arranged and layered, allowing "Labs" to always feel as if it's continually evolving as it progresses, helping to give the track both a spontaneous and otherworldly feeling that continually rewards its listeners with exciting new iterations of its already strongly established concepts. Both melodically and rhythmically, "Labs" offers up a smorgasbord of engaging, and marvelously catchy may I add, musical ideas that feel both enthralling and continually compelling throughout, Brian clearly draws inspiration from a broad range of styles and this allows for some thrilling musical ground to be covered, whether it'd be the heavy synth elements that drive the track forward or the more subdued acoustic, sometimes prog-like, moments that are carefully interspersed throughout, "Labs" always feels fresh and exciting, and for that reason alone, I'll be having it on repeat for quite some time to come.

Target Audience Appeal: Lovers of indie-inspired alternative electronica will certainly find "Labs" to be a gloriously fascinating listening experience.

Artist target suggestions: M83, Kavinsky, The Flaming Lips, The Octopus Project, Panda Bear, Animal Collective, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Battles, Avey Tare, Muse, DEMON QUEEN, Jel, Damaged Bug, Zackey Force Funk

SONG REVIEW ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“ VaporLoQ - Tripsychord

radioairplay.com independent new music

VaporLoQ - Tripsychord
Rock, Instrumental, Electronic
Calgary, Canada

Overall Impression: VaporLoQ has released the new Electronica track Tripsychord. Grabbing the listener's attention, Tripsychord starts off strong with an immediate "In your face" attitude. The moderate beat grooves with the style, attack, and sound of an old school Hip Hop drummer. As the melodies begin blossoming upward, time seems to stretch over the tune's foundation. The spaciousness of these melodies adds significant body to the overall sound. While the attitude of the tune is not one to be messed with, Tripsychord avoids overwhelming the listener and instead passes through textures and moods in a controlled manner. These are engaging moments of sonic personality best described as mysterious, witty, and a little trippy. Overall, Tripsychord by VaporLoQ is a killer new Electronica track that finds a balance between the raw and the controlled.

Strongest Point(s): Some Electronica tunes drench the listener in waves of sound and overwhelming pulses. Tripsychord seems to take a more thoughtful approach. There is an aggressiveness to the beat, but at no point does it tear anything down or spin out of control. The melodic and harmonic ideas all work well off of each other and have something unique to offer. All of these things combine for a very cool track.

Target Audience Appeal: Fans of Electronica and EDM will dig Tripsychord by VaporLoQ

Artist target suggestions: Skrillex, Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, GizM0, Aniare, Submarinium, 7t2names, Ghostynth, Solo-x, Deadmau5, Steve Aioki, MGMT, David Guetta, Tiesto, Afrojack, Diplo, Kygo, Swedish House Mafia

radioairplay.com independent new music

MIDI MASTA - Bukhoor
Hip Hop, Arabic, Electronic
Tokyo, Japan

Overall Impression: "Bukhoor" is an exotic new release from composer/producer MIDI MASTA. Bubbling middle eastern percussion fuses with ethnic strings and flutes on this track to establish a mysterious and exciting atmosphere, transporting the listener to a desert bazaar. A beautifully evocative melody is passed between instruments, building in intensity and incredibly rich layers of texture, before culminating with a precipitous climax. At a short but sweet 78 seconds, MIDI MASTA's "Bukhoor" is perfect for any music lover wishing to take a brief sonic sojourn into the Arabic world.

Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Fantastic atmosphere, very transportive. Great instrumentation and a nice arrangement, solid build. Percussion sounds really good. SONG REVIEW ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“ Flying Stone - Lonely Night Blues

radioairplay.com independent new music

Flying Stone - Lonely Night Blues
Folk, Electronica, Rock
Munich, Germany

Overall Impression: Delivering an intimate glimpse of the effects that passion and desire can have upon the lonesome, Flying Stone's Lonely Night Blues makes full use of just fingerpicked guitar, subtle bass, and tastefully restrained vocals to illustrate the protagonist's struggle with longing and isolation - bringing anecdotally relatable lyricism and an all-too-familiar scenario to sonic life.

Strongest Point(s): Lonely Night Blues is an impressive piece of music! The guitar work throughout the track is beautifully understated, carrying the bulk of the harmonic development with a practiced poise that's seriously engaging. Flying Stone's vocals are unrefined in a very gripping way, lending a further edge of reality to the sound and granting the lyrics a believable gravity. The lyrical content is accessible to a large portion of the population, standing to connect with a comparable listening audience! Great work!

Target Audience Appeal: Lyrically, Lonely Night Blues bears a subject matter that is inherently familiar to the entirety of humankind. While the specific anecdotal content pertaining to club nightlife may be less accessible, the sentiment of desire for interpersonal connection is practically universal - making Lonely Night Blues a song for the isolated, both physically and socially! SONG REVIEW ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“ Tiana Xiao - Imagine

radioairplay.com independent new music

Tiana Xiao - Imagine
Pop, Electronic, R&B
Hong Kong

Overall Impression: Tiana Xiao's clarion vocals soar over a three-dimensional bed of crisp hats, bright synth and gently wobbling bass in her original Pop/Future Bass track, Imagine! Encouraging and hopeful, Xiao's aspirational lyrics coalesce with powerful production elements to deliver a passionate Pop crossover, syncing heartfelt vocal deliveries with high-gravity beat drops to make Imagine an unparalleled listening experience!

Strongest Point(s): Tiana Xiao's voice is sublime as it floats above the surface of the sound, evoking a celestial presence that's only bolstered by the massive bass wobbles in the song's central moments. Perfectly good as a straight-up Pop track, the inclusion of Future Bass elements drives this sound into another plane of artistry - providing a fully cathartic instrumental counterpoint to the ethereal vocals that carry throughout. SONG REVIEW ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“ Frisco Blu - This Year

radioairplay.com independent new music

Frisco Blu - This Year
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Electronic
CO, United States

Overall Impression: Frisco Blu is keeping the Emo Pop soundscape alive and well with his latest EP, Dim and Distant. The third track from this EP, This Year, chronicles an emotionally dark time in Frisco's life through honest, relatable lyricism and relaxed vocals. A sonic bed of acoustic guitar and light bass support the narrative with intimate and lonesome tones, making This Year a solemnly gripping song.

Strongest Point(s): Great lyrics! Through and through, you've nailed the ethos of Emo Pop with lyrics that paint a specific picture but carry generally relatable undertones. The vocal delivery is on point, too - perfect for the sound. Great guitar work, nice and simple while fully supporting the song. Love the use of bass as well, just to give more gravity without being too heavy. This is really excellent songwriting for the style!

Target Audience Appeal: Those that remember the Emo Pop hits of the 00's will be surprised to hear Frisco Blu in 2020 - but they'll be glad to know that the sound lives on! This Year bears a specific flavor of songwriting sensibility that promises to connect with listeners that have enjoyed the genre - and the raw emotional weight and skillful delivery from Frisco Blu stand to make it accessible to listeners from all kinds of backgrounds. Thanks for sending this in, man!

SONG REVIEW ๐ŸŽต๐Ÿ“ Flakestate - I Was Wrong to Assume

radioairplay.com independent new music

Flakestate - I Was Wrong to Assume
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Electronic
FL, United States

Overall Impression: Flakestate "I Was Wrong to Assume" brings the rich pleasantries to your ear. Poetically narrative "our" story---the world's story---instead us coming together, decisions help divide the human race. Dreaminess staging for the haunting melody takes you on a undetermined journey that is not just black and white. Scenarios are not always so clear. The haziness of the situation won't clear up demands change from all. The blame cannot be on one side or person. Reflection is needed to identify and acknowledge, admit the errors. Flakestate's I Was Wrong to Assume" inspires all individuals to be upstanding citizens.

Strongest Point(s): Great effects. Chosen minor key led to more interesting ways to develop the song. Phenomenal chord progressions that kept the listeners' anticipation for what's next. Thin to thick textures along the increased chord complexities and instrumentation (bells are cool) appropriately created defined sections and climax then resolution. Pretty capable singer and pleasant vocal harmonies (3:53-4:22ish). Vocal melody enhance the chords with the melodic line fitting into the presented chords. The overall music is aesthetically pleasing (even without your vocals) since you have it in the background.

Areas of Improvement: In the vocals at the beginning (0:00-0:06), the distortion is noticeable but it dissipates as the song plays on. You may have intended this for the grittiness or rawness. There's a B natural pitch in the bells @ 2:46 that sticks out (2:40 it also but the dissonance resolves later into the chord). I know it's suspension but some people may not notice. This may be intentioned as well. I love the song as is.

Target Audience Appeal: Alternative Rock, Electronic Rock, World Music (healing society); Global Citizen or entity demands hope for society; emotions/feeling: free or carefree, dreamy, reflective, passionate, intensity, warmth, tenderness.

Artist target suggestions: Beach House, Bon Iver, Coldplay, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Gorillaz, Imagine Dragons, Imogen Heap, Lido, OneRepublic, Phoenix, Porter Robinson, Radiohead, Seal, Sigur Ros, Snow Patrol, The 1975, The Killers, The National, U2, Vampire Weekend, Zedd
