Richard Turcot - Racines / The Roots
Classical, Ambient, Soundscape
Quebec City, Canada
Overall Impression: "Racines / Roots" is a transcendent new original work from French Canadian composer Richard Turcot. With an emphasis on tone and atmosphere, this electronic composition instills a boundless sense of mystery and wonder in the listener, as one cannot help but be instantly transported by his minimalistic use of subtle synth drones and strings. Lush, verdant chords wash over the audience, blurring the lines between organic and synthetic and allowing the ear to inform the mind's eye, making this piece an ideal companion for a visual medium. Fans of new age and ambient electronic music will find a lot to like about "Racines / Roots", and should not hesitate to check out Richard Turcot's recent full length album titled "La Suite du Monde".
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Nice tonal balance and shape. Fantastic blend of colors, simple yet rich palette. By alternating between consonance and dissonance, you create a great push/pull dynamic without relying on traditional harmonic cadences. Love the decay at the very end. This piece absolutely has the potential for visual or cinematic application, thanks to its emotional and chromesthetic properties. All around, a wonderful work of art. Very nice job!
