Overall Impression: There's a certain level of humor and cheekiness to "Head Or Tails" that is rather refreshing to hear in the vast ocean of generic hip-hop and pop. jag7 puts an undeniably unique and intriguing spin on the genre and does a great job of injecting the track with his own unique musical identity. What ensues is an incredibly catchy and strikingly melodic track that is both brilliantly self-aware and quite simply fun to experience.
Strongest Point(s): Jag7 has a great understated quality to his vocals that fit the track very well, it has a subtlety to it that matches the chilled and relaxed vibe of the music perfectly. There's a certain feeling of self-awareness in both the lyrics and songwriting that feels like jag7 is cleverly playing with the typical hip-hop conventions and stereotypes, casting an almost satirical eye on the genre's current state. I may be completely off the mark with this one but having listened to other tracks by jag7, I can definitely sense his great sense of humor coming through the music, which is both competently written and well-arranged may I add. There are some great little musical details throughout that help add some interesting layers to the music, the vocal and piano joint melody from 2:22 for example is a nice touch and helps provide contrast. What really strikes me with an artist such as jag7 is that as well as being able to write solid tracks and lyrics that are full of personality, jag7 sounds like he's quite simply having fun with his music, making the music he wants to make and refusing to conform to any specific style or trend, and I think that's marvelous.
Target Audience Appeal: Music lovers who like their hip-hop and R&B with an added sense of uniqueness and unconventionality will find "Head Or Tails" a brilliantly different listening experience.
