Inger-Kristine Riber - RIT
Classical, World, Folk
Voss, Norway

Overall Impression: Based on the Olav H. Hauge poem, Inger-Kristine Riber'S beautifully crafted "RIT" is quite simply breathtaking and I'll be completely honest in saying that I found this to be both incredibly moving and an almost transcendental listening experience. With its profound melodic maturity and vivid lyrical poignancy, RIT combines sweeping melodic themes filled with delicate refinement and deft harmonic sophistication, this results in a deeply engrossing, highly reflective, and wonderfully emotive piece that serves as an endearing tribute to Olav's literary works.

Strongest Point(s): The way in which a number of different vocal forms have been incorporated works extremely well, the combination of traditional singing, narration, and recitation provides a great amount of contrast throughout and is thematically fascinating. Reidun Horvei does a wonderful job of bringing the words to life through astounding tonal and dynamic control as well as her deeply expressive vibrato, treating each and every word with equal importance and delicacy. The music that accompanies Reidun is superb, Inger-Kristine Riber presents us with an auditory feast of fantastically composed music that effortlessly weaves together its mature melodic themes with beautiful underlying harmony and inspired sound design, this culminates in a fascinating soundscape filled to the brim with textural depth and nuance. In terms of the arrangement, a great deal of attentiveness has gone into how the music flows from beginning to end, and it has this wonderful organic feel to it that allows it to flow exceptionally well. The arrangement is also strengthened by its diverse instrumentation, offering up a broad tonal and timbral palette that casts a variety of different shades on the composition's many melodic ideas.

Target Audience Appeal: RIT encapsulates the contemporary classical genre brilliantly and is also a fine example of world music.

Artist target suggestions: Franz Schubert, Joe Hisaishi, Giuseppe Verdi, Max Richter, Gustav Mahler, Philip Glass, Antonin Dvorak Hania Rani, Marie Awadis, Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Johannsson, Thomas Newman
