Asaxjo - A New Day
Jazz, Smooth Jazz
Texas, United States
Overall Impression: I couldn't help but get my guitar out and jam along with this incredibly well-put-together Jazz instrumental, "A New Day" is a masterclass in melody and feel that embodies the genre perfectly. Asaxjo showcases great songwriting flair and has written a deeply nuanced composition that is full of variation and a surprising amount of emotive depth, superb!
Strongest Point(s): The melodic writing here is of such maturity that it is crystal clear that this was written by seasoned musicians that have been developing their craft for some time, and it shows, there is a definite sophistication in the writing that shines through. The tonal textures that are layered here are particularly inspired, the smooth sultry sound of the lead sax backed by the strong rhythmic backbone that's provided by the funky bass and understated drums creates an excellent laidback vibe to the piece, whilst still managing to engage the listener throughout its duration, and obviously, we can't forget the Rhodes piano adding its bluesy feel and outlining the harmony beautifully. The interplay between the instruments is excellent, trading off one another with great elegance and mastery, and I like how each instrument is given its time to individually shine, the sax, bass, and guitar all get solo sections which provide nice variation throughout. The general flow of the song is smooth and nicely transitions through its sections seamlessly. The production is great and fits the style very well, each instrument is clear and distinct and there's clarity between the parts.
Target Audience Appeal: This certainly fits the Jazz genre very well, particularly the Smooth Jazz sub-genre
Artist target suggestions: Joyce Cooling, Chris Standring, Ronny Jordan, Brian Culbertson, Steve Cole, Brian Simpson, Norman Brown, Ken Navarro, Eric Darius, Euge Groove, Richard Elliot, Urban Knights, Herbie Hancock, Otis McDonald
