Karin and the Crew - I Know You
World, Cabaret, Musical
Ra'anana, Israel
Overall Impression: Karin and the Crew are bringing a funky feel to the cabaret with "I Know You" The sassiness that comes out from this performance flows with both the voice and horn seamlessly. This cleverly written original piece gives a fresh approachable appeal to the blues. As you listen, you envision an upscale lounge, a singer center stage, band on the left or behind the singer and a chorus of people come out dancing. They (the dancers), then, stand with the lead voice to back her up. What a fantastically enjoyable song! Sit back, relax with your friends Karin and the Crew to the sound of "I Know You".
Strongest Point(s): The song is a great finished product! I love the arrangement that keeps the voice and horn has a dialogue throughout the piece such as at 22-28. Love the chord progressions that created intricate transitions (1:03-1:18). You even changed the mood at 1:36 (with staccato or eighth notes). Karin and the crew are such a force. You cannot just hear that you you're having fun and are able to play off each other but you make the listener feel it and want to join in with you!
Target Audience Appeal: "Does this song have market appeal?" Yes, it 100% does. "I Know You" can be used as a song in plays, movies (anywhere it could be an introduction, ending [credits], or a scene), lounges. I think the takeaway subject is being in love, falling in love at first sight, a situation where you feel like you've known that person all your life but you're meeting for the first time (or maybe not-I know you from somewhere or sometime). This tune evokes pure happiness!
Artist target suggestions: Enya (voice quality), Billy Joel, Elton John, Herbie Hancock, George Gershwin
