Beth Duncan - I'm All Yours
Jazz, Bossa, Vocal
CA, United States

Overall Impression: Beth Duncan's voice hits like the first notes of a good whiskey - smooth, smokey, and full of promise! The title track from her 2020 album, I'm All Yours begins with a riveting bass and percussion groove, gradually introducing keys and strings before Beth takes the center stage - bringing the love song's lilting lyrical melody to three-dimensional life through skillfully relaxed contralto deliveries and an audible smile!

Strongest Point(s): The instrumental support on I'm All Yours is fantastic! The rhythmic rapport between the various elements in the sound keeps the track rolling forward with a keen and calm sense of drive and purpose - really engaging solo sections throughout (especially from the saxophone) and a fully cohesive feel from start to finish. The key element, of course, is Beth's vocal performance - making full use of her natural range and tone color to participate in the sound with a pleasantly commanding presence and bringing the necessary intimacy to make the lyrics connect! All of this honed through a pristine mix makes this really incredible work!

Target Audience Appeal: Beth Duncan's vocal stylings may not overlap with the current canon of contemporary Pop, but for fans of the Jazz genre, she's got everything we want and then some! I'm All Yours comes across not only as a playful declaration of affection from one soul to another, but directly from Beth Duncan to those who would listen in - promising to make it worth the while to stick around and hear what she's laying down, giving us a taste of the skill and style contained within her album and asking us, "Won't you be mine?"

Artist target suggestions: Laura Fygi, Sophie Milman, Lalah Hathaway, Jane Monheit, Cassandra Wilson, Madeleine Peyroux, Julie London, Nancy Wilson, Norah Jones, Stacey Kent
