Bobby Newman - Almost Mine

Blues, Rock
TN, United States

Overall Impression:
The intimate fiddle claims the opening, cementing the song's subtle emotional pull - very memorable. The acoustic guitar performance provides the backbone to the track with Bobby Newman's powerful yet soothing voice giving the tune another dimension. The choice of tempo also lends to that..... you know, that slow-burning Country/Americana kind.  The arrangement was well thought out as it was a warm audible change when the female vocal entered the song.  The mix between the two vocals lends itself to the heart and soul of the lyrics - two longing harmonies embodying bare emotion.  Musicianship seems to meld traditional, bluesy americana melodies with country elements for quite a beautiful song.

Strongest Point(s):
Instrumentation, melody and lyric.  Nothing felt rushed, the listener was able to fully feel the weight of every note, emotion, and word.

Another strength is vocal timbre for sure. As an artist/group getting an audience to know your material and recognize your sound quickly is a great trait.  I feel like if I heard another track from Bobby Newman, just by the sound of his voice I would be able to tell it was him without knowing the artist on the track prior.

Area(s) of Improvement:
The vocals shouldn't be perfectly in unison as they are two separate entities, same lyrics but individual deliveries. This could be an artistic choice with how they both play their roles. My opinion completely here, but in the delivery at 2:57 when the female vocals come in on the word "Your" prior to Bobby's, it throws me off, only slightly, but just enough that I'm taken out of the moment.  May want to keep the same note and intensity from female vocal, but come in on time with Bobby.

2:05, can't tell if it's a loud audible slide on a guitar string or if the audio file is damaged here but there is something audible in the mix that shouldn't be there.

2:13 something funky goes on here. Sounds like a bad edit in the drum mix, bad clip or edit perhaps? It's really evident within the drum fill listening in a headphone mix.

Other than the above mentioned, I think that this is a solid track. Great job with this tune!

Target Audience Appeal:
I feel that this song is right inline with underground to mainstream modern day country/acoustic/americana movement that many artists have broken through to success. There is also this acoustic/rock quality to it which is why I will list Shinedown as one of your target artist suggestion. Very inline with their acoustic performances. Listeners young and old would very much appreciate both the sound and the message of Almost Mine.

Artist target suggestions:
Bob Seger, Zac Brown, Darius Rucker, John Prine, Steve Earle, Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real, The Head and the Heart, Tom. T Hall, Josh Ritter, The Felice Brothers, Guy Clark, Brandi Carlile, Shinedown (Acoustic stuff), Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
