Travis Laurence Naught - The Other Side of Wildness
Rock, Songwriter
Washington, U.S.
Overall Impression: Songwriter Travis Laurence Naught crafts nihilistic alternative rock with an unbridled, supernatural edge, on his release of "The Other Side of Wildness (feat. Olivia Brownlee)". This track features a compelling post-punk sound, with muscular riffs and dynamic drums in support of guest vocalist Olivia Brownlee's stellar performance as she delivers restrained, staccato verses alongside savage, howling choruses in her full-throated alto. Naught's lyrics use lycanthropy as a metaphor to describe the transition from a stale and safe existence, into something beastly and untamed. Travis Laurence Naught's "The Other Side of Wildness (feat. Olivia Brownlee)" should appeal to a wide swath of rock fans, thanks to a captivating grunge-influenced sound along with dangerous and rebellious themes. Look for it now, available as a single on all major platforms.
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, great sounding mix. Excellent composition and song structure, nice dynamic shape. Love the contrast between verse and chorus, reflecting the metamorphic theme of the song. Band sounds fantastic all around, particularly at high intensity and volume. Good cohesive effort by the whole unit. Olivia gives a strong performance, she really sells the song with an almost theatrical rock performance. Great howls as well. Lyrics are disorderly and dark, conveying a transition but also an impeding doom and dangerous outcome. Werewolves are fantastic metaphors, and this track would be a great Halloween playlist addition, or even a horror sync opportunity. Overall this is a great bit of song craft, and a fine finished tune that rock audiences will love. Tremendous job, by everyone involved!
