Overall Impression: Boston-based Singer Songwriter Scott Nichols has something special with his new holiday tune Find The Mistletoe. Filled with seasonal memories and a fantastic groove, Find The Mistletoe touches on some classic holiday themes, but still manages to be completely unique and original. The song meanders through ideas and textures, but the charm exuding from Nichols keeps the listener's attention. His lyrics take snapshots of joyful holiday moments and memories and create a collage that is all too inviting. Although the tune starts strongly enough, Find The Mistletoe definitely grows into something greater. As the song progresses, the groove, backup vocals, and Nichols' soft singing wrap themselves around the listener and washes away all of their concerns. Overall, Find The Mistletoe is a fantastic new holiday tune that has a unique sound and is a strong musical contribution by Scott Nichols.
Strongest Point(s): There are many strong points with Find The Mistletoe. However, the arrangement and overall musical composition really stick out. There are many moments where the pianist or guitar get to snag some spotlight with enchanting melodies, often in response to a vocal line or as a transition. Moments like these point to a much more musical approach to songwriting that is very welcomed. They allow the song to breath and take on a new character. The jazzier ideas are complemented well by the guitars and background string sections, and the entire tune flows very nicely.
