Overall Impression: Detroit-based Christian rockers Sweet Crystal spread good tidings and cheer this Yuletide holiday, on their release of "The Light of Christmas (feat. Amy Susan Heard)". This track features a dynamic arrangement that begins as a delicate pop ballad, before building to an invigorating classic rock sound. Male and female vocals come together to share the spirit and the reason for the season, both separately and as a harmonized duet, delivering a mix of secular and non-secular lyrics that capture the childlike wonder and eternal gratitude associated with the winter holiday. Christian rock and CCM enthusiasts can find Sweet Crystal's "The Light of Christmas (feat. Amy Susan Heard)" available for streaming now, on all major music platforms.
Strongest Point(s): Solid production and mix. Fantastic intro, love the synth lead. Nice dynamic shape throughout, great buildup. Stirring melodic content. Rhythm section is tight and supportive. The double time at 1:45 is a great changeup, really kicks the track into high gear and grabs the listener's attention. I really liked the inclusion of "O Holy Night", with it's interesting chord substitutions. It sets up a great harmonized guitar solo section. Strong vocal performances across the board, passionate deliveries with excellent clarity. The backing vocals add a great choir-like element. Lyrical content does a great job of conveying compassion and kindness with a strong Christian message of faith and eternal light, themes that will definitely resonate with Ccm and Christian rock audiences. All in all, this is a tremendous track that deserves a spot on any contemporary Christmas playlist. Stellar work, by everyone involved!
