Eighteen Rabbit - I Reckon
Rock, Alternative
Virginia, U.S.

Overall Impression: With its undeniable classic 90's alt. rock sound, sterling performances, and solid writing, Eighteen Rabbit's hook-riddled "I Reckon" is a track that understands the art of feeling lost and making noise anyway. It's a tune that feels firmly at home within the realm of the alt. rock genre's heyday, where a bands power came not just from their amps, but from their ability to turn personal crises into anthems. Lyrically, the track dances between resignation and resolve, between the ache of not fitting in and the freedom of realizing maybe that’s okay. Of course, all this wouldn't matter if the performances weren't there to reinforce the themes weaving their way through the writing, and thankfully, the performances are excellent. Whether it'd be the dynamic vocals, delightfully crunchy guitar work, or infectious grooves provided by the bass and drums, there's a definite chemistry here that helps ensure "I Reckon" hits in a way that proves most enthralling.

Strongest Point(s): Alongside the strong performances, this is a deftly crafted arrangement. The track flows in a way that feels wholly natural and organic and is layered in a way that ensures a warm, full-bodied sound is achieved, despite their being that quintessential alt. rock grit present. Whether it'd be the way in which each performer dynamically reacts to one another in order to infuse the music with a buoyant sense of character, or the timbrally diverse sounds on offer (Including crunchy overdriven guitars, driving bass, or subtle organ elements) the track feels more akin to a live performance than a studio affair. The lyrics are also a particular highlight. “Revisions aren't final unless on vinyl, so revise that final cut”—a line so rooted in music culture and metaphor, it feels like the song tipping its hat to itself. It acknowledges that we’re all works-in-progress, even when the world expects us to be polished final drafts. And then there’s the refrain: “Say goodbye, say you're sorry / Never mind I feel free / Take a chance, take your time” This isn’t just a chorus—it’s a philosophy. It’s the heart of “Eighteen Rabbit” beating out its pulse. The band understands that vulnerability is the flip side of authenticity, and they lean into it hard, yet in a way that feels truly dynamic.

Target Audience Appeal: "I Reckon" is an effective piece of alternative rock songwriting and I can see it strongly appealing to fans of the genre.

Artist target suggestions: Toad The Wet Sprocket, Counting Crows, Dishwalla, in Blossoms, Collective Soul, The Wallflowers, Vertical Horizon, Third Blind Eye, Hootie & The Blowfish, R.E.M.
