Todd Wilson - Lady I've Been Waiting For
R&B
New Jersey, United States
Overall Impression: Todd Wilson has released his Jazz version of Lady I've Been Waiting For. Originally by the R&B sensation The Manhattans, Lady I've Been Waiting For has a feel and melody that lights the listener's heart on fire. Wilson has chosen a slightly slower tempo for his version, and features fantastic saxophone and guitar solos in place of the vocals. The saxophone playing has a full, rich tone that sparkles just enough for Smooth Jazz. Equally impressive is the guitar work. The sizzling tone and sustain are out of this world, and the guitarist nails the phrasing while still adding some flair and originality. The tune has a nice build that keeps the listener engaged and excited for each solo line. Overall, Todd Wilson's cover of Lady I've Been Waiting For is an easy listen that is full of soul and style.
Strongest Point(s): The source material for this arrangement is fantastic. It was a smart move to make an instrumental version of Lady I've Been Waiting For. The melodies transfer very well onto the instruments, and each player finds the opportunity to make them even more interesting. The soloists' sounds work well with each other, too. Neither instrument sounds out of place or takes too much of the spotlight.
Target Audience Appeal: Fans of Smooth Jazz will dig this cover of Lady I've Been Waiting For by Todd Wilson.
