Deep*Soul - Summertime
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Blues, Country
Tidewater, United States

Overall Impression: Elegantly performed and undeniably stylish in nature, "Summertime" is a wonderfully laid-back piece of smooth jazz that ebbs and flows with both tremendous grace and refinement. Gabriela gives another outstanding vocal performance that is perfectly complemented by the delicately arranged musical backing that serves as her backdrop. From the delicate percussive elements to the harmonically sophisticated nature of the piano, "Summertime" is a song worth investing your time in, it has that certain cool jazz flavor to it that is wonderfully compelling.

Strongest Point(s): Having reviewed a previous track performed by Gabriela, I knew "Summertime" was going to be another exceptional display of her vocal mastery, and lo and behold, I thought right. Gabriela's vocal prowess lends itself well to a jazz-flavored track of this nature and the understated quality that the accompaniment possesses, along with the sophisticated harmony that underpins the track, allows Gabriela to really explore her range and tonal possibilities, there's a great amount of melodic freedom granted when performing within a Jazz context and Gabriela utilizes this concept brilliantly.

Target Audience Appeal: I would certainly say this track is more closely aligned with the smooth jazz genre rather than the blues, and I can certainly imagine jazz lovers finding themselves connecting with a song of this nature.

Artist target suggestions: Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Melody Gardot, Etta James, Laura Fygi, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Julie London, Anita O'Day, Dinah Washington, Blossom Dearie
