Overall Impression: Well performed and showing great creativity in its writing, "Gotta Run" is an excellent alternative rocker that shows great promise in young and aspiring singer-songwriter Tyler Huertas. Led by a stylistically fitting lead vocal performance and containing a definite sense of maturity in its lyric writing, this is a track that listeners can easily relate to, there is a grounded and understated nature to Tyler's performance that helps to make the song feel that bit more relatable and engaging.
Strongest Point(s): The vocal harmonies work extremely well and help to highlight certain aspects of the lyrics whilst also adding some nice tonal layers to the track, not only does this provide further interest to the arrangement but also expands upon the texture of the song considerably, it's often the smaller details such as these that make significant impacts on the arrangement and Tyler clearly has a great eye for this. It's often easy to over-write in places, making melodies more complicated than they need to be or embellishing musical ideas that really don't need to be embellished, but in the case of "Gotta Run", it really is a case of less is more and whether it'd be the fantastic laid-back nature of the guitar solo that enters at 2:30 or the catchy vocal hooks that occur throughout, every melody in "Gotta Run" is easily singable and has the power to stay with the listener long after the song has finished, and an artist that can achieve such a feat is certainly doing something very right.
