Robert Hazelton - Let You Down
Rock, Goth, Dark Wave
Washington, United States

Overall Impression: Effectively combining alternative rock styles with a strong gothic-inspired sense of flair, "Let You Down" is a highly melodious and atmosphere-inducing piece of songwriting that possesses a deliciously dark tone alongside a definite sense of foreboding running through its veins. Robert Hazelton has done a great job at conjuring up a detailed goth rock anthem that fuses excellent melody writing with solid performances.

Strongest Point(s): I think it's safe to say that behind any great song is a great melody, and whilst "Let You Down" is certainly not lacking in this department by any means, I particularly like the way in which the main melody has been further reinforced by having it played on a number of different instruments. Due to their individual tonal characteristics, the clean, overdriven, and bass guitar help present the melody in a more effective and timbrally contrasting way, as well as serving as a brilliant way of developing the main theme, helping to keep the idea sounding fresh throughout. The use of subtle vocal in places FX is a smart decision, and most importantly, not overused. The use of delay at 1:52 really adds to the grandeur of the vocal performance and adds to the overall atmosphere of the track substantially.

Target Audience Appeal: This is a string goth-inspired alternative rocker and I'm sure lovers of these styles will certainly appreciate what "Let You Down" has to offer.

Artist target suggestions: The Cult, Gary Numan, In Strict Confidence, Zeraphine, Faith and The Muse, London After Midnight, The Shroud, Claire Voyant, The Frozen Autumn, Rosetta Stone, Vernian Process
