AJO and the Hungry Boys - Things Are Getting Better
Rock, Blues, R&B
Montreal, Canada
Overall Impression: With its soaring lead vocal performance, catchy hooks, and brilliant '80s aesthetic, "Things Are Getting Better" is a great look back to the days of classic 80's synth-based rock, a time when things were loud, brash, and simply fun. As the saying goes "They really don't make'em like they used to" and despite having been originally released in 1988 on their album "Ride The Elephant", Ajo And The Hungry Boys are keeping the spirit of that timeless period alive and well, and with the recent massive resurgence of 80's inspired pop culture, what better time than now. Superb performances, a solid arrangement, and an abundance of style make "Things Are Getting Better" a highly enjoyable listening experience.
Strongest Point(s): The performances are certainly very strong and have great flair to them, perfectly encapsulating the time period and genre. The lead vocals have the necessary power and character behind them to really grab the listener's attention and most importantly, hold it from start to finish, and the backing parts that accompany boast a great amount of variety. From the brilliant blues-infused harmonica flourishes to the bright and grandiose nature of the brass and the killer guitar work to the epic-sounding synth, this is a very well-balanced track that both engages and enthralls.
Target Audience Appeal: This is definitely a tune for the 80's rock lovers out there.
Artist target suggestions: Don Henley, Peter Gabriel, Huey Lewis & The News, Rick Springfield, Eddie Money, Kenny Loggins, Glen Frey, Steve Winwood, The J. Geils Band, Bruce Hornsby
