Fatal Vision - Turn Around
Rock
Ottowa, Canada
Overall Impression: "Turn Around" is the lofty new release from Canadian rock group Fatal Vision. With a style that recalls the great arena rockers of the 1980s, this power ballad opens with a delicate solo piano intro that is soon joined by a rich, full band arrangement featuring soaring guitars, bombastic drums and lush background vocal harmonies, creating a gorgeous, larger than life sound. Fatal Vision clearly hold 80s rock in high regard, applying fine attention to detail that's apparent in the polished production, as well as the period perfect vocal style and instrumentation. Romantic and somewhat nostalgic, "Turn Around" should resonate strongly with GenXers, as well as contemporary pop/rock fans who appreciate timeless melodies and fine craftsmanship.
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Great tonal balance. Definitely has that 80s sheen to it. Fantastic arrangement, wonderful variation and dynamics that should keep listeners engaged. Beautiful piano intro, really sets the mood. Stellar vocal performances, both in the lead and in the backing vox. The lead nails the sound of the era, and the background vocals are expertly arranged and well mixed to give a nice, wide sound. Great guitar tone, also certainly of the era. Drums sound amazing, plenty of big room reverb to give the low end a nice "boom" and to allow the cymbals to cut through and wash over the listener. Lots of nice small touches here also, like the synth strings and the acoustic rhythm guitar that further enhance the lavish rock orchestration. Lyrical content is very much in line with the arena rock genre, a tender yet distinctively masculine proclamation of romantic love. You seem to have a reverence for the music and truly identify with it, plainly aware of the art that you create. Superb track, and a tremendous job by everyone involved.
