Overall Impression: "In the Middle of the Night" is a soulful new EDM release from international recording artist Dirk "CASS" Cassiers. Done in a nu-disco style, this track features an infectious four-on-the-floor groove that's punctuated by phased out guitars and house organs, colored by classic retro synths, and held down by a percussive funk bass line that's sure to fill up the dance floor. The real highlight however, is Cassier's abundantly expressive vocal performance as he explores themes of inclusivity and equality, all the while maintaining a lively festive atmosphere. His extraordinary talents are on full display here, enhanced by modern production techniques and exquisite vocal layering that gives this track a brilliant sheen. Dirk Cassiers' "In the Middle of the Night" should certainly have widespread appeal among fans of funky house and nu-disco, as well as crossover potential with pop audiences, thanks in part to its positive messaging and slick, contemporary production.
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production, excellent mix. Nice blend of retro and modern elements, great instrumentation and dynamic arrangement. Drums sound fantastic, kick has a nice warm punch and the topline is crisp without sounding harsh. Keys and guitars have a very unified sound, nice fx. Phenomenal bass line, super funky and kinetic. Truly stellar vocal performance and production; very soulful and passionate, with fantastic lyrical content. Amazing track all around, wonderful job by everyone involved.
