Overall Impression: With its undeniably dark and somber lyrical themes and marvelous sense of atmosphere, "The Killing Kind" is a brilliant slow-burning alternative rocker that combines excellent performances with accomplished songwriting. Lucid Dreaming has done a wonderful job of crafting a track that not only conjures up some strikingly vivid imagery but also manages to provoke a stark emotional response, leaving its listeners in a state of deep thought and quiet reflection.
Strongest Point(s): The haunting and reflective nature of the lyrics is perfectly paired with a very strong lead vocal performance that has a certain melancholic quality to them that fits the nature of the song perfectly. Profoundly expressive and displaying a superb amount of tonal and dynamic dexterity, the lead vocals add many nuanced layers to the already effective understated quality that the song possesses. The performances across the board are solid, and there is a definite feeling of chemistry between each and every performer involved, this results in an overall performance that feels wholly organic and free-flowing. It's also clear that a lot of thought has gone into the arrangement and the way the song's various sections transition from one another, which again, is helped a great deal by the accomplished sense of musicianship that each performer brings to the table.
