Greg Schlatter - Wave Goodbye
Country
Kansas, United States
Overall Impression: I've always found the country-rock and pop genre to be brilliant at raising the spirits and injecting the soul with a hearty dose of positive energy, and "Wave Goodbye" duly follows this trend. Greg Schlatter offers up a charming and thoughtful tune that is filled with both a great deal of heart and spirit. First-rate performances and wonderfully written lyrics ensure "Wave Goodbye" is a highly listenable and enjoyable experience that is a shining example of what the genre has to offer.
Strongest Point(s): The lyrics are definitely a standout element of the track and I think it's safe to say that anyone with a heart will find them both pleasant and resoundingly relatable. The lyrics are such an integral part of the country genre and it's clear that Greg has spent a great deal of time making sure that the lyrics are both engaging and performed amiably, further heightening their effectiveness. There is a great deal of melodic and rhythmic variety on offer and the track is filled with some great little details that enhance the songwriting tenfold, I particularly love the way the guitar mimics the vocal lines in places, presenting the main melody in two different tonal shades is a brilliant way of strengthening said melody and acts as a great way to develop it. The track adheres to a standard song structure, but a track of this nature certainly needs that in order to best keep the listener continually engaged throughout, but merit must go to how well the arrangement has been handled, the songs various sections seamlessly transition from one to another with great grace, this results in a great flowing track that feels both concise and cohesive. The production and overall mix are excellent and definitely help give the track that radio-friendly sheen whilst still managing to retain a feeling of looseness that ensures the track still feels organic. It's very easy for songs of this nature to be overproduced, resulting in a loss of character, but that is certainly not the case here.
Target Audience Appeal: "Wave Goodbye" is an excellent example of country rock/pop done well, and lovers of the genre will surely appreciate its relatable lyrics and inspired songwriting.
Artist target suggestions: ATaylor Swift, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Chris Stapelton, Tim Mcgraw, Zac Brown Band, Simon Casey, Guy Clark, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Cody Jinks, Brothers Osborne
