From Matilda - Sway
Alternative/Alt. Rock
North Carolina, United States

Overall Impression: From Matilda has released the new track Sway. Opening with atmospheric vocals over gentle guitars, Sway instantly reveals an Indie Rock sound rooted in the early 2000’s. Taking on lost love and regret, the lyrics voice the questions swimming around after a relationship has run its course. Particular focus has been given to introspective, lonely ideas - the hum of a note, or an empty road. This focus amplifies the tune’s overall mood and is reflected perfectly by the singing. Straying from brashness and outbursts, the vocals are defined by an intimate performance with a brassy tone. With all elements combined, the tune has the feel of a poetic love letter written a little too late. The title track from their first EP, Sway by From Matilda shows an actualized vision with promise.

Strongest Point(s): Sway has focused in on a particular sound and a particular mood. It never diverts from the atmosphere it creates, but instead works inside it to create intrigue. From Matilda shows a melodic and textural aptitude in a microscopic setting. Small melodies and changes in the guitars and vocals emerge at the right time to keep listeners hooked until the very end.

Target Audience Appeal: Fans of indie, alternative, and soft rock will enjoy Sway by the band From Matilda.

Artist target suggestions: Brand New, Coheed & Cambria, Silversun Pickups, Death Cab For Cutie, At The Drive In, Muse, Panic! At The Disco, The Used, Sufjan Stevens, Of Monsters and Men, The Fray
