R&B, Hip Hop, Ballads
Arizona, United States
Overall Impression: Infectiously catchy riffs are combined with a great amount of groove in Dewaine G Jackson's incredibly funky rocker, "The Sky is the Limit", a rip-roaring blend of funk, soul, r&b, and rock that is brimming with a great sense of style and a tremendous amount of personality. There is something particularly "classic" sounding about "The Sky is the Limit" that helps gives it its charming quality, and it's great to heart artists blending genres like this to create an interesting fusion of styles.
Strongest Point(s): Opening with a fantastic funk-infused guitar riff that is soon doubled up by the brilliantly chunky bass, "The Sky is the Limit" instantly grabs your attention with its quirky style and sense of fun. Any track that can get you moving along to its groove in the opening few seconds is certainly doing something very right and this is a track that accomplishes that effortlessly. The lead vocalist gives a truly charismatic and convicted performance that helps inject the track with both extra character and plenty of raw energy, and the addition of backing vocals helps strengthen these attributes tenfold. Along with its groove-laden rhythmic qualities, a great amount of melodic variety is also on display, from the opening pentatonic based riff in the opening that makes great use of chromatic additions to the soaring lead solo flourishes, the track is filled with enough variation to ensure listeners are kept continually engaged from start to finish.
Target Audience Appeal: Fans of funk-rock will surely appreciate what "The Sky is the Limit" has to offer, catchy riffs, and plenty of grooves to go round.
Artist target suggestions: Living Colour, Lenny Kravitz, Spin Doctors, Mother's Finest, Fishbone, Street Sweeper Social Club, 24-7 Spyz, TM Stevens, Vernon Reid, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Betty Davis, Richie Kotzen
