Raynald Grenier - Tra Le Braccia Dell'Amore
Classical, Easy Listening, Dream Mood
Quebec City, Canada

Overall Impression: Having had the prior pleasure of reviewing another piece from Raynald Grenier's Requiem Mortis Supplicare album, I knew exactly what type of listening experience awaited me, and it did not disappoint one iota. Masterful performances, exceptional writing that's both marvelously delicate in execution and thematically intricate in nature, and a keen eye for detail combine to make for another riveting and undeniably fascinating listen that is nothing short of breathtaking. Raynald Grenier delivers another masterclass in composition and arrangement that grows on every subsequent listen.

Strongest Point(s): Beginning with a beautifully quirky call and response idea amongst the string section, we are instantly thrust into Raynalds vividly crafted world, the opening acts as a great way to introduce the lead male soprano that shortly enters. Backed by smooth flowing strings and a fitting waltz rhythm, the soprano does a sterling job of setting the scene, boasting great conviction and assurance in his performance, he captures the tone of the piece brilliantly and manages to wonderfully set up the entrance of the female sopranos that follow. I always find the way Raynald gradually introduces his compositions many varied elements fascinating, his writings are always delicately built upon layer by layer, and every layer gracefully sets up the next, which in turn, creates this certain organic feel to the piece in which each and every element flows seamlessly and is in perfect synergy with one another, this composition is no exception. It goes without saying that the performances are exceptional, and there is clear chemistry between each and every performer that really shines through the music, and from the very beginning until the very end, you can't help but feel captivated by the story that's being told.

Target Audience Appeal: I think it's safe to say that most opera lovers will have a lot to take away from a great piece like this, but I'm sure this will appeal to a wide range of classical music lovers in general.
