Overall Impression: "LAZARUS" is the latest release, from Mississippi based jazz artist, R. David Belew. Smooth and sultry, "LAZARUS" blends traditional jazz with contemporary electronica to create a serene and polished listening experience. Synthesizers are interwoven with piano, played over an electronic r&b style beat. A diverse and varied arrangement keeps the audience engaged, from start to finish. An outstanding piece of mood music, R. David Belew's "LAZARUS" should strike a chord with fans of nu jazz, as well as fans of a more traditional smooth jazz sound.
Strongest Point(s): Really nice production, some nice tonal shaping, great mix. Such an atmospheric piece, has a great visual quality about it. Excellent piano work, very tasteful. Some wonderful variations in the arrangement, it never felt repetitive at all. Loved the half step modulation around 4:50, really jumped out at me and grabbed my attention. All in all, a wonderful track, and a solid piece of work!
