The Humour - Momentary Moment
Rock, Emo, Punk Rock
Leeds, United Kingdom
Overall Impression: Combining crushing riffs with heaps of attitude, "Momentary Moment" is an anthemic Pop-Punk rocker that grabs the listener with its undeniable catchiness and refuses to let go. The Humour have conjured up an extremely confident and energetic piece of songwriting that's delivered with both bombast and self-assurance, excellent stuff!
Strongest Point(s): To begin with, I really do love the guitar tone here, mixing that perfect perfect amount of chug and tonal grit whilst still retaining great clarity. The performances are strong across the board and as a listener, you can definitely tell that this is an extremely well-rehearsed group of musicians that knows their craft well. The expressive vocal performance is strong, showing great range along with confident control over tone and dynamics, fitting the style of the song perfectly, the guitar parts are played with skill and precision, and most importantly feel, whilst the bass and drums both provide a solid rhythmic backbone that keeps the piece nicely glued together. The arrangement and general flow of the song work very well, it's varied and there is enough diversity between each section that the listener is always kept engaged and invested. I love the "lo-fi" guitar interlude that occurs at 1:23, nicely sparsing out the instrumentation before all kicking back in at 1:25, great stuff, the melodically interesting vocal interlude at 2:23 is also an inspired touch, and the "Hendrix" style altered chords beginning at 2:39 add a fantastic blues vibe, once again all this helps to add a rich assortment of diverse sounds and melodic ideas. The overall production is great, there's great clarity amongst all the instruments and they all sit nicely within their own space in the mix, there's also a great use of effects, particularly the delay on the rhythm guitars, this works really well and adds a nice amount of depth and texture to the overall tonal palette of the song.
Target Audience Appeal: This definitely fits within the Pop-Punk genre very well and should be the main target area to focus on, but I think this would equally appeal to the rock genre, there's enough diversity in here that there's something of interest for a number of different audiences.
Artist target suggestions: The Blackout, Glamour Of The Kill, Deaf Havana, You Met At Six, Young Guns, A Day To Remember, The Used, Story Of The Year, The Passion, Silverstein, Blessthefall, All American Rejects, We Came As Romans, Memphis May Fire, Asking Alexandria, Falling In Reverse
