Jonathan Louis - Eprouvant amour
Pop, Rock
Paris, France
Overall Impression: The sound of a lonesome piano among the leaves of a dense forest leads Eprouvant amour (Exhausted Love), the debut single of independent French singer, actor and artist Jonathan Louis. As the piano is joined by Jonathan's commanding vocals, he relates how there is a time for everything in one's life. And how solitude and self-reflection can help us find our way forward during times of instability. A dramatic orchestral accompaniment on a floating bed of percussion, leads into the chorus. Joined by ethereal female backing vocals, Jonathan reminds the listener; as a parent would their child, that "Life is like a derivative of the world", and that "Butterflies, never see the ocean", reflecting the kind of cautionary words we hear when we are young. But the following lines "A slave at your door, as if time were not so short, we start again this exhausting love.", reveals the heart of this composition. Eprouvant amour, is a reflection on the cyclic nature of an unstable relationship. One that makes all parties involved exhausted, from it's back and forth motions. And it delivers a message that sometimes the best thing for an individual is to learn to love themself, and to be at peace with themselves, before they involve themselves in yet another romantic excursion. The words of Jonathan Louis ring true to anyone who has ever found themselves trapped in a relationship that felt like it was meant to be, yet was never balanced or stable. And was fated to eventually topple. After Jonathan relates that their is also indeed a time for companionship, and unions, that the world is also a cruel place. And you should always look ahead and be cautious of every choice you make. After repeating the chorus a final time with a lilting lead synth accompaniment, the music fades away into the final click of an analog cassette deck. Jonathan Louis sings with the conviction of an individual that has truly experienced exhausting love, but has since found a road to a better place.
Strongest Point(s): Eprouvant amour has a very professional sound. It's a well mixed and mastered song. Really enjoy the use of orchestral elements, backing vocals, synths, pads, etc. The lyrics are very mature for a pop song. And reflect the thoughts of adults that have been through a variety of relationships. This isn't music for teenage angst.
