Danbert Nobacon - Mesmerica
Blues, Country, Other
Washington, United States
Overall Impression: "Spectaculous, mesmiraculous, malfeasiculous" is a direct quote from and accurate depiction of Danbert Nobacon's simplistically hypnotic song Mesmerica. With a delightfully bouncy sound, cleverly crafted lyrics, and that satirical sparkle of awareness that crowns the sharpest of political commentaries, Stacey Singer and Frank Lee have produced a song that is as endearing as it is convicting - and we're mesmerized.
Strongest Point(s): The overall tone here - the vocal deliveries, the smooth organ and arpeggiating piano, the bouncing bass line and driving drum part - all conspire to form a super solid foundation for this message. Seriously nonsensical and thought-provoking in all the right ways, you've really nailed lyrics that are as catchy as they are unique while pushing a political awareness on the listener in the most unsuspecting way. Excellent work! Highlight moments include the spoken break from 2:29-2:59, whistle solo included, and the sudden feel change at 4:36. Gotta keep us listeners on our toes!
Target Audience Appeal: Mesmerica should strike a chord with anyone who's tired with the ridiculousness of the status quo. In this time of acute public awareness and repeated governmental failings, these lyrics are sure to resonate with a very large swath of listeners - and the overall sound is sure to appeal to a wide range of ages. Danbert Nobacon knows what's up, and Mesmerica breaks it down with humor and grace. I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album!
Artist target suggestions: Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Coconut Records, Peter Bjorn and John, Gogol Bordello, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Dr. Dog
