Center Stage - Sunday Actors

Were pleased to present our latest Center Stage artist, Sunday Actors  the solo act of Dallas-based musician James Henderson.  It’s a studio-only project in which he writes, performs, records, produces, mixes, caters, etc. everything himself. The self-titled debut album came out in February 2012. Since then, he has sporadically released singles whenever the mood strikes. All released material is available through all the major online retailers.

At Sixes And Sevens is a great indie rock ballad; composed with a careful mix of pop and notes of Americana, the warmness in the production and authenticity in the melody and lyrics will be sure to please fans of The Shins and Fleet Foxes. We look forward to hearing more from the talented and promising artist.

Describe your sound in one ramble-on sentence
A blend of psychedelia, post-punk; heavy on experimentation but still quite accessible

What’s the story behind your artist name?
My ex-wife and I were driving down a beautiful street on an idyllic Fall Sunday afternoon. People were out working on their lawns, playing football, kids were running around. It looked like an advertisement for the neighborhood. She said, “who are these people, Sunday actors?” I liked the sound of it.

Do you write/compose your own songs? Briefly describe your songwriting process
Yes. Usually a chord progression will just come to me out of nowhere. Sometimes a melody. I quickly record a sketch of it into my phone so I don’t forget. Eventually, I’ll get around to finishing it off.

If you were to cover another artist or band's album, which would you pick and why?
Hmm. I don’t know if I would ever want to do that. I’d like to re-record great songs that were originally recorded poorly. Arthur Green by John’s Children comes to mind.

What are five songs you guys are listening to right now?
All I’ve been listening to are the mixes of a new band I’m in called Motorcade. Apart from that, The 15th by Wire, The Yo-Yo Man by Echo and the Bunnymen, Leave Me Alone by New Order, Hearts in Exile by The Homosexuals, and Kurious Oranj by The Fall.

What has been the best part of 2016? What was the low point?
Getting a few songs in movies/TV shows is a high point. Having two herniated discs in my cervical spine is the low.

What do you like more: Performing live or recording in the studio?
Recording.

What's one thing people should know about you?
That it’s just me!! It’s not a band at all

Any upcoming projects? What can we expect from you in the near future?
I’ve been working very hard on the Motorcade debut album. There will be shows and tours and all that. 2017 figures to be busy.

What do you like the most about Radio Airplay?
I can get my songs out there quickly and get some response.
