Meet Rae Ellis, our new Radio Airplay Band of the month who has been captivating Jango listeners with her unique raspy and soulful voice. Combining her gospel roots with contemporary urban styling, Rae Ellis embodies a sound that is both raw and melodic. Get to know Rae, what inspires her, and what's in store for her artistic future: 

Describe your sound in one sentence 

Though my music reflects a lot of my influences past and present, my sound is uniquely ME - Rae Ellis. 

What inspires you to make music?

Wow, I'm inspired by many things, but most of the time I'm inspired by the truth of my own life. Everyday our life tells the story of who we are, I just happen to enjoy putting my story to music.

Name three people who have influenced your music, and tell us why- Living or dead.

Frank Sinatra is a staple in my book of influences. His song "My Way" tells the story of why I love him. Even in the end in his old age, he stood and sang HIS music HIS way. He was just amazing! 

My godfather B-Jeffery. Though he's been involved in the music industry for as long as I can remember, he's never allowed the industry to dictate what good music is, but rather he relied on his own ears. I've taken that approach to my own music. 

My hometown was also a musical influence, but wait you said a person not a city. You see, Buffalo, NY though small, bread musicians, singers, and producers. They sat in small spaces and created music that was authentic and beautiful. I hope a lot of them get the exposure they so deserve. 

How do you connect with fans and get them involved in your music?

I'm a social network junkie! If people Tweet me @rae _ellis or Facebook me, I Tweet & Facebook them back. Also, live performances are my niche. I'm normally in the faces of the fans singing directly to them. I love it! 

What do you like the most about Radio Airplay?

Radio Airplay has a way of connecting your listeners directly to you, the artist. I have fans now that are worldwide, and because of Radio Airplay I am able to connect personally with them via email, etc. 

Do you have any recent or upcoming projects you'd like to share with us? Tell us about it.

THE DIARY OF RAE ELLIS, my freshman project is now available digitally everywhere music is sold. I'm also going to have a few of the tracks featured in film, so lookout for that. Additionally I've been given a few writing assignments for other artists.
