Rock, Instrumental, Experimental New York, United States Overall Impression: A rather unconventional approach and unbridled sense of creative expression help make "MISNIGHT" feel unlike anything you've quite heard before, and I rather like it! Best described as an electro-infused foray into avant-garde jazz-flavored prog experimentalism, Joseph P Hradisky Jr has whisked up a rather out-there sounding instrumental that confidently casts away typical genre convention and instead opts to keep listeners firmly on their toes in a world of unexpected melodic twists and turns and towering harmonic uncertainty. Strongest Point(s): There is a definite intensity and feeling of spontaneity to the music that manages to effectively play with listeners' expectations, this gives the instrumental particular freedom and allows it to basically change direction as it sees fit, a common staple of the free jazz genre. The back and forth interplay between the two lead instruments helps establish some form of rhythmic and melodic movement, that whilst certainly free-flowing in nature, still manages to inject a hearty dose of excitement and intrigue into the track that feels gloriously hectic in nature. Target Audience Appeal: This is rather a difficult track to try and pigeonhole, but I certainly think that's a good thing! Free jazz and experimental prog lovers will most likely connect with this track. Kursivo - The Royal Fish Chef Alternative/ Alt.Rock, Experimental London, United Kingdom Overall Impression: There comes a time in many a music lover's life when you simply need a song like "The Royal Fish Chef", whereas many artists endeavor to market their music in a broader mainstream appealing fashion, artists such as Kursoivo, who's armed with a clearly great sense of humor, simply laughs in the face of what we are led to believe is normal genre conventions and proceeds to throw them out of the closest nearby window, and I think it's splendid! You'll be hard-pressed to find a track quite like "The Royal Fish Chef", it's gloriously bizarre, utterly hilarious, and weirdly mesmerizing. Kursoivo is doing his own thing and sounds like he's having an absolute blast whilst he does it! All hail The Royal Fish Chef! Strongest Point(s): This really is an excellent arrangement, the way the track balances its more calm and contemplative moments by cleverly utilizing a more subdued sound palette, one that makes great use of delicate piano, subtle percussive elements, and ambient guitar, is contrasted brilliantly with the tracks more powerful moments, in which case more rhythmically driving drums, harder-edged overdriven rhythm guitar, and a more spirited vocal style is adopted. This gives the track a sense of natural flow, there are peaks and troughs to the music that allows the song to have a far more impactful effect on the listener emotionally. Target Audience Appeal: This is a difficult one, but I actually see that as a positive! This is very much its own thing and it's all the better for it! If I was to place it in a genre, I suppose the closest would be experimental electro-comedy rock? Beginning with a laid-back funk feel and a nostalgic, lo-fi guitar chorus, Flight swiftly and smoothly departs familiar ground by incorporating a clever blend of ethereal synth leads and both mechanical and electronic instrumentations - tastefully constructing an immersive and restless soundscape that's practically teeming with innovative development! Strongest Point(s): The first thing that deserves commendation is the sonic consistency of Flight. The instrumental tones and executions are diverse and seemingly informed by a wide range of influences, but Lloyd Khan manages to sand everything down to a glossy finish - expertly aligning Funk guitar and ethereal synth with ominous pads and a fully danceable groove! Every component of the sound just WORKS, and the resultant listening experience is nothing short of magic! The contrast between the sections makes everything feel alive, like the difference between the slightly foreboding sound at 1:18 and the sudden shift to a bright and open groove at 1:33 - very well done and viscerally satisfying from a listening perspective. Stellar synth and guitar work throughout, with the culmination of multiple guitar lines creating a dense web of sound at 5:35 and falling away into an emotionally salient musical tail in the track's final moments. The only thing that could make it stronger is a few more seconds of decay in the end, to really allow the listener to bask in the afterglow! Target Audience Appeal: Lloyd Khan's Flight has much to offer many! With a fully polished and delightfully relaxed feel, the track is well suited for the general spectrum of instrumental music applications - relaxation, study, sleep, and focus - while the sophistication and implementation of Flight's melodic and ambient content is enough to keep more discerning listeners coming back for more! Driven enough to inspire dance but reserved enough to invite meditation, Flight defies classification and challenges expectations in a fully satisfying way! This is an absolute whirlwind of incredibly unique soundscapes and ideas brimming with diversity. Lloyd Khan has composed a captivating and equally enthralling piece of music that is continuously evolving and maturing as it goes. There is an abundance of compelling ideas to digest here and it's safe to say, Maya is a composition that undoubtedly requires multiple listen-throughs in order to really pick up on the subtle musical nuances that are sprinkled throughout. There is a plethora of content here to get immersed in along with an abundance of keen-eyed musicality to be inspired by. Strongest Point(s): The production is top-notch and boasts a high level of professionalism. All parts are clearly defined and sit perfectly in the mix. There is a lot of musical content to absorb, and the artists clearly have a high-level understanding of a variety of musical styles and instruments, combining a number of genres such as rock, techno/electro, prog, and interesting ethnic world music to name a few, there is always something interesting occurring at any one time. Love the little nod to "Riders of The Storm" at 1:58 with the descending Rhodes lick, it's a very cool musical Easter Egg. Target Audience Appeal: As this is such a varied composition, it sits very well in the Experimental music genre, a style that utilizes multi-genre mash-ups, evolving soundscapes, and experimental musical ideas.
