Overall Impression: Canadian artist Cody Southoff serves up blues-based, guitar-driven post-rock, on his release of "Summer Roses." Featured on his 2026 album Magic, this riff-heavy instrumental tune is highlighted by crisp, powerful drumming and a chaotic layering of guitar tracks that focus on atmosphere and texture, rather than melody and structure. Light, playful moments are balanced by dense, heavily-distorted looping blues phrases that on occasion overlap, resulting in a glorious cacophony that should strongly appeal to fans of experimental post-rock. Look for Cody Southoff's "Summer Roses", now available on all major streaming platforms.

Strongest Point(s): Rough production, raw mix. Great unfiltered aesthetic. Strong drum intro, really solid work behind the kit throughout. Nice mix of guitar tones, ranging from somewhat dirty to downright filthy. Killer main rhythm riff that crosses over the bar line. Interesting angular soloing. Nice extended outro sans drums, with layered looping guitar lines. Although this style might not be for everyone, I think you could find an audience amongst post-rock and noise rock enthusiasts whose ears generally tend to be wider and more accepting of new sounds. Very nice work!
