Overall Impression: "Getting to Know You" is a haunting indie rock ballad from singer/songwriter Steve Ulrich. This downtempo track features resolute drumming and a stalwart bass line that work incredibly well together, providing a spacious groove. The rhythm section is colored by jangling acoustic guitars and sinuous electric leads, all in support of Ulrich's wise and weathered baritone vocal.  Strongest Point(s): Solid production, particularly for a demo. Awesome intro that grabs the ear straight away with the feedback swell. Love that groove, particularly the bass line. Drums and bass work together well to form a rock solid core, rhythm section is airtight. Atmospheric guitar work, both acoustic and electric, creating an ethereal sonic bed that suits your vocal well here. Nice quick instrumental bridge section, breaks things up nicely. Solid vocal performance and production. A vulnerable and understated delivery, that when combined with that reverb, makes for a haunting and almost mysterious vibe. The backing vox add nice texture and color. Simple yet brilliant lyrical content that expresses a mature intimacy, emphasizing the importance of a healthy balance of "give and take" in a romantic partnership. Excellent ending that builds dynamically, before a satisfying landing. Overall this is a terrific bit of songwriting and a strong track that's nearly ready to ship.

Center Stage Artist - Perico Hernandez

Jose Caridad Hernandez , better known as “Perico”, is a sonero/percussionist/composer/songwriter who creates “organic  cuban music.” Born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, Perico is the second to the youngest of twelve siblings and the only one who became a musician. Perico began his musical training as a young boy in Havana.  He watched the street rumberos creating amazing rhythms on the “tumbadoras” (congas), and after watching Patato Valdez play congas on a TV show, Perico decided that’s what he wanted to do. Perico gradually learned from the “rumberos” and at age 14 became the conguero for a neighborhood group, Conjunto Monte Carlo. He was eventually recruited to play with the popular Conjunto Casino.
