Mary and Norman - If I Should Ever See You Again
Folk, Pop

Overall Impression: Singer/songwriter duo Mary and Norman serve up wistfully emotive folk-pop, on their release of "If I Should Ever See You Again". Featured on their 2024 collection titled "Our Spare Room Studio Songs, Pt. 1", this track finds Mary's luminescent alto vocal backed by intricate finger-style guitar, along with stirring strings and warm brass. Reflective lyrics look back on a long lost love, fondly recalling the past while yearning for the pure innocence and joy that was left behind. Impactful songwriting and heartbreaking themes make Mary and Norman's "If I Should Ever See You Again" an easy recommendation for folk, pop, and adult contemporary audiences. Listeners can find it available for streaming, now on YouTube.

Strongest Point(s): Excellent production, solid mix. Great warm and intimate sound. Strong folk chord progression that allows for simple yet effective melodic content. Outstanding arrangement and instrumentation, love the dropout at around 2:09. Terrific picking pattern, great touch and technique. Guitar sits really well in the mix. The brass and strings are very well arranged, good voice leading along with a nice variety of textures and colors. Amazing vocal performance and production; gorgeous voice timbre with fantastic range, nice reverb, and an expressive delivery that's just perfect for this style of folk-pop. Lyrics are full of vivid imagery and deep-rooted emotion, and really capture that longing and loneliness that's so difficult to articulate. Brilliant title hook as well. All in all, this is a wonderful bit of song craft and a fine finished track that should appeal to a fairly broad audience, and to older folk listeners in particular. Tremendous work on this tune!
