Julian Coppock - Dead Rose
Rock, Classic Rock
United Kingdom
Overall Impression: British singer/songwriter Julian Coppock masterfully paints a vivid portrait of regret on his latest release, "Dead Rose." This mid-tempo track delivers a classic rock-inspired sound, highlighted by sturdy guitar riffs, bluesy leads, and lush vocal harmonies driving over a steady backbeat. Organ and piano round out the sound, providing the perfect backdrop for Coppock's compelling tale of a broken relationship, one worsened by a drunken argument and left with a feeling of irreparable loss. Fans of melodic yet muscular rock and powerful metaphors will undoubtedly enjoy Julian Coppock's "Dead Rose."
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production and a great sounding mix. Nice style that pays homage to seventies country-rock and folk-rock, sounds fresh yet familiar. Nice array of guitar tones; acoustic sounds bright and cuts right through the mix, great crunchy rhythm, and I really love the twang on the lead. Organ and piano sound fantastic, and add a ton of wonderful color. The backing vocal harmonies really bring this tune to life and give it character and texture. Vocal performances and production sound incredible all around. Brilliant lyrical content, a very efficient use of words to convey that sense of dread and the sinking feeling of ending a relationship. Great repetition at the end, on a killer line. Should resonate well with older rock and pop/rock audiences. All in all, this is a tremendous track and a fine bit of song craft. Awesome work, from top to bottom!
