Christina Dana feat. Gunnar Hjorth - Bubble
Jazz
Sweden
Overall Impression: Contemporary chanteuse Christina Dana delivers smooth and reflective nightclub jazz, on her release of "Bubble". Accompanied by only a lively guitar vamp with a walking bass and subtle percussion, the artist's rich alto vocal takes center stage on this delightful mid-tempo tune. Lyrics describing an icy, insular romance are set to seductive melodies and delivered in an alluring manner, complemented by brief yet inventive scat and guitar solos before eventually being punctuated with a short coda. Fans of light jazz as well as traditional pop will find Christina Dana's "Bubble" to be both captivating and charming, thanks to its timeless style and intimate sound.
Strongest Point(s): Excellent production, smooth mix with a small room sound that feels intimate and clear. Wonderful lounge vibe. Terrific jazz-pop chord progression that allows for fluid and compelling melodies. Fantastic accompaniment, great tone and a tremendous bass walk. The subtle percussion is just enough to drive the rhythm, its bare minimalism contributes to the 'up close and personal' quality of the track. Nice efficient solos, good technique and execution. Incredible vocal performance across the board; expressive phrasing and breathy dynamics along with an inviting delivery, while staying comfortably within your range. Love the whispered count-off before the final refrain. Lyrics are relatable for anyone who's ever been in a one-sided, walled-off relationship, should resonate with mature audiences. Solid hook in the chorus as well. All in all, this is a strong track that does a great job of combining jazz structures with pop sensibilities. Brilliant work on this one!
