Megan Wheeler - Now That I'm Gone
Pop
Florida, U.S.
Overall Impression: Florida-based singer/songwriter Megan Wheeler serves up emotionally honest electropop, on her release of "Now That I'm Gone". The long awaited followup to her debut single "Replaced", this track features a creatively compelling synth-heavy arrangement that blends retro-inspired indie electronica with club-friendly house grooves to create a warm and nostalgic sound that should resonate with a wide range of listeners. Wheeler's blissful vocals deliver thoughtful lyrics that detail a difficult breakup, brought to life with filters and stutter effects while attempting to navigate the contemporary dating scene with a cool head and a chilled heart. Indietronica and electropop fans in particular will enjoy the artistic production, vintage vibes, and inherent pop sensibilities of Megan Wheeler's "Now That I'm Gone", available now as a single on all major platforms.
Strongest Point(s): Brilliant production, great sounding mix. Good clarity and use of stereo space. Wonderful warmth and saturation that gives it a vintage feel, and works very well with the retro synths and filtered drums. Killer bass line, complements the top line melody nicely. Amazing structure and arrangement that serves the song; terrific variations throughout that will maintain audience engagement, and I absolutely love the gorgeous outro. Tremendous vocal performance and production, with an expressive and intimate delivery that is sure to connect with listeners. Great use of filters, delays and stutters to add depth and rhythmic texture to the vocal line. The spoken word segments add a fun and flirtatious element, great use of hard pans to simulate a conversation. Lyrics are articulate and convey a cool, calm confidence in regards to dating, and should resonate strongly with young female listeners. All in all, this is a tremendous breakup track that incorporates elements from a few different genres to produce something that's both intrinsically unique and commercially viable. Outstanding work on this one, by everyone involved!
