Overall Impression: Indian composer V. Sanjeev blends classical Western motifs with traditional South Asian melodies and instrumentation, on his release of "Wings of Gold". This dynamic composition combines exciting rhythms with lively melodic content, opening first with a lyrical fanfare in a prelude that sets the harmonic tone and fantastical mood before expanding into a more adventurous theme that plays with cadential tension and form. A third section features a busy walking bass line along with light glockenspiel and tabla, while continuing the motif from the previous passage before the closing movement which culminates in a grand finale of epic proportions, with full symphonic participation and a reprise of its sweeping melodies alongside rapid-fire rhythms. Fans of Indian classical music and Bollywood cinematic scores should not hesitate to check out "Wings of Gold" from V. Sanjeev, now available on all major platforms as a single as well as a stunning video.
Strongest Point(s): Outstanding production and mix. Gorgeous composition and solid structure, each movement is related through the strength of the motif, yet has its own complete character and profile. Wonderful dynamic shape throughout. Stunning use of Western and Indian instruments that allows for some unique colors and textures, love how the Indian voices are featured soloists, with the orchestra playing a complementary role in most situations. Excellent use of percussion and rhythm throughout, presents some truly vibrant moments. Fantastic finish, the excitement builds throughout the finale while using every tool at your disposal. Tremendous symphonic ending that will leave listeners breathless and wanting more. All in all, this is a brilliant composition and a great sounding track that blends South Indian elements with Western European classical music. You manage to explore a vast amount of sonic territory on this piece in a short amount of time, beginning with a kernel of an idea and expanding on it until you have uncovered its ultimate form. Stellar work on this one!
