Reid Schoenfelder - What Really Works
Rock, Alternative
Maryland, U.S.

Overall Impression: Baltimore-based singer/songwriter Reid Schoenfelder blends melodic pop/rock with innovative sound design, on his release of "What Really Works." Produced by Steve Kilgallon, this uptempo track features a dynamic and musically diverse arrangement that fuses the chiming guitars and vibrant melodies of jangle pop with elements of post-punk and electronica, creating a captivating sound that indie rock audiences will love. Schoenfelder's lyrics explore themes of disillusionment and departure, contrasting the sunny and uplifting vibe and atmosphere while providing a youthful and rebellious spirit. Pop/rock fans of all ages will enjoy the savvy songwriting, contemporary style, and diverse sound of Reid Shoenfelder's "What Really Works."

Strongest Point(s): Amazing production, great sounding mix. Very contemporary sound, nice blend of stylistic elements to create something fresh and full of life. Fantastic energy, terrific tempo and rhythmic shape. Solid pop song structure and harmonic progression, allowing for engaging melodic content. Great main riff, serves as the catalyst for the rest of the track. Nice variety of synth choices. Drums sound crisp and tight throughout, bass works well in the groove. Tambourine adds a ton of rhythmic vigor, great choice. I love the instrumental breakdown section at around 2:18, acts as a brilliant diversion. Outstanding vocal performance and production; captivating indie rock style and delivery, and a nice use of delays and filtering to create a richly layered sound. Lyrics have a subversive defiance about them that should appeal to rock audiences, particularly somewhat younger ones. Great hook in the chorus, magnetic ear worm potential. Tremendous track from top to bottom, stellar work by everyone involved!
