Emotion Witch - Not Your Doll
Pop, Rock
Washington D.C., U.S.

Overall Impression: Washington D.C.-based artist Emotion Witch serves up edgy feminist indie rock straight from the nation's capital, with her release of "Not Your Doll." This mid tempo track is features a modern pop/rock sound that's built around an incredibly catchy bass line and straight ahead rock groove, with chromatic piano and distorted guitar rounding out the arrangement. Filtered and layered vocals deliver lyrics that promote self-agency and reject patriarchal social norms, highlighted by a brilliant but NSFW hook. Adult alternative and indie rock enthusiasts need to check out Emotion Witch's "Not Your Doll", available now on all major streaming platforms.

Strongest Point(s): Excellent production and mix, especially for a DIY job. Solid tonal balance. Good song structure. Fantastic bass line that has that "Werewolves of London"/"Sweet Home Alabama" feel to it. Drums sound really good, solid mix and they work well with the bass. Nice guitar work throughout, outstanding dirty tone. The little chromatic piano runs add a lot of interesting color. Terrific top line vocal melodies. Nice variation in the outro section. Great vocal performances and production; nice punk rock swagger and confidence in the delivery, and a wonderful job of filtering and stacking harmonies. Tremendous lyrical content; great themes conveyed in an exceptionally compelling and emphatic fashion that listeners will embrace. All in all this is an incredible bit of song craft, and a fine finished track that should have very little problem finding its audience. Stellar work on this one!
