Sounds M - Dance of the Dead
Electronic, Classical
Japan
Overall Impression: Japanese composer and producer Sounds M invites listeners to join her on a musical journey through both the whimsical and the surreal, with her release of "Dance of the Dead." Mysterious and enchanting, this piece features a fantastical sound achieved through augmented triads played on delicately plucked harps and music box pianos, while ghostly synths and haunted strings cast their eerie shadows across the uneasy soundscape. Dynamic altered percussion provides lively rhythmic layers and intriguing textures, gradually building from a subtle syncopated tapping to a mighty groove. Fans of highly visual contemporary instrumental music and electronic modern classical works will enjoy "Dance of the Dead" from Sounds M.
Strongest Point(s): Excellent production and mix. Brilliant instrumentation. Very cold sound pallet, but still has a great organic quality about it. Nice slow build over the course of the piece. Love the augmented triad motif, it's simultaneously and inviting and foreboding. Great gestural, broadly sweeping phrases. Outstanding percussion arrangement, definitely puts the "dance" in dance of the dead. Interesting and varied patterns, and also great sound design there. The overall shape and atmosphere of this piece make it perfect for media. In general, this is a terrific composition and a tremendous finished track that should delight and possibly frighten audiences for years to come. Fantastic work!
