Robyn Scott - Let's Pretend
Country/Americana
California, United States
Overall Impression: Strongly arranged and performed with a great deal of conviction, Robyn Scott's wonderfully amiable "Let's Pretend" is the type of track that charms and uplifts in ways that only the country genre can, and thanks to its delicate melodic qualities and laidback nature, you can't help but feel a resounding sense of calm despite the reflective, heartrending nature of the lyrics. Roby's passionate vocal performance combined with the strength of the writing helps to ensure you come away from "Let's Pretend" thoroughly satisfied and whether you identify as an avid country lover or not, it's hard not to be charmed by the song's welcoming nature.
Strongest Point(s): The vocal performance is excellent and certainly the heart and soul of the track. Between Robyn's warm timbral qualities and dynamic finesse, she's able to convey the lyrics in the delicate manner that they require, and as a result, they are made even more effective. Furthermore, due to their impeccable phrasing, the vocal lines possess a natural free-flowing quality that sweeps across the accompanying instrumentation beautifully. The arrangement, a wonderful collection of expressive fiddle melodies, tasteful lead guitar work, gentle swaying percussion, and tender arpeggiated acoustic progressions, works brilliantly and ensures the vocals are given ample opportunity to explore the sonic landscape, and of course, these elements are bolstered even further by the relatable nature of the writing and warm mix, resulting in a listening experience that feels well-rounded and very replayable.
Target Audience Appeal: "Let's Pretend" is a compelling piece of country songwriting and I can certainly see it drawing in fans of the genre.
Artist target suggestions: Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Reba McEntire, Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood, Lee Ann Womack, Vince Gill, Trisha Yearwood, The Judds, Martina McBride
