Overall Impression: Boasting an engaging sense of atmosphere and undeniably rich in melody from start to finish, Jay Cordes's ambiance-filled "Reaching Green" is a texturally expansive sounding piece of electronica that makes excellent use of its distinct synth sounds and beautifully phrased melodic motifs. Jay Cordes does a sterling job of mixing both electronic and acoustic-based instruments in a tonally rich ensemble of elegant piano passages, brilliantly incorporated sound-design elements, and sweeping synth textures, giving listeners a particularly relaxing listening experience.
Strongest Point(s): Any strong piece of electronica needs melody and I'm glad to say that "Reaching Green" is certainly not short of that. From the strong main piano hooks to the smooth-flowing legato phrases courtesy of the synth, there's some fantastic use of counterpoint here and it allows the melodies to interact with one another in a deeply organic way. Being able to balance such distinct sounds takes skill and Jay certainly displays great strength in this area, despite the varying timbral qualities of each and every synth element, they all feel distinct from one another, and due to the way the track has been mixed and produced, each element has been given the adequate space needed in order for listeners to be able to fully appreciate the different tonal characteristics of the track.
Target Audience Appeal: I can certainly see lovers of electronica connecting strongly with "Reaching Green".
