David Bagno - Movement for Violin and Piano
Classical, New Age Classical, Romantic Piano
Florida, United States
Overall Impression: Composer David Bagno has released a gorgeous and emotional new piece entitled Movement for Violin and Piano. Throughout the work, the piano seems to be having a conversation with itself. Both hands rise and fall melodically, gesturing toward one another like a pair of dancers. The primary melodic motif is kept simple, using only one rhythmic shift to stay in the listener's memory effectively and effortlessly. While there are changes in texture, and clear sections to the piece, the character never shifts. This is a warm and emotionally-driven work that uses its short running time well. The violinist captures its heart-wrenching essence, and gently hovers above the piano. There are moments where rawness replaces overt beauty, allowing for a more realistic and relatable listening experience well suited for the chamber ensemble.
Strongest Point(s): There is such a strong emotional response to hearing double stops on the violin. When placed in an emotionally-rich piece like this, they exponentially increase the listener's attachment to the music. Bagno has created a feature for the violin with this piece that really allows them to steal the spotlight.
Target Audience Appeal: Fans of Classical Music, Chamber Music, and Romantic-era Classical music will enjoy David Bagno's Movement for Violin and Piano.
Artist target suggestions: Raynald Grenier, Michael Hugh Dixon, Mauricio Escalona, Richard Turcot, Sarah Jo Wood, Piotr Illyich Tchaikovsky, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Samuel Barber, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Antonio Vivaldi
