Blujon - On a Cold Winter’s Night
Alternative/Alt. Rock, Rock, Progressive rock
Cocentaina, Spain
Overall Impression: A musical mash-up of folk-pop and new age, Blujon’s latest single “On a Cold Winter’s Night” combines elements from some of the band’s influences like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Although they consider themselves a progressive rock band, this track has a much lighter and softer sound. From progressive to symphonic rock as well as classical influences Blujon has something that will appeal to a variety of music lovers.
Strongest Point(s): Vocally, Blujon’s has a lovely sound and a calming/relaxing presence and tone. The band's lead singer Samantha Schoon's sound is reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan meets Enya. Her accent and the nuances in her voice make it beautiful and unique. Although Schoon is a classically trained soprano this track embodies different vocal techniques that enhance and complement her vocals in a completely different way. Her voice is simple and understated and beautifully controlled. She accentuates every note and lyric with style and grace. Her sound is new age folk-pop incarnate. “On a Cold Winter’s Night” plays like a lively lullaby, that just hooks you from the start. Lyrically, the song celebrates Christmas, but not in any one denomination, it's for all religions and beliefs and for anyone to enjoy. It shows that the holiday is no longer just a Christian event but a day to celebrate with family, friends, and loved ones and just show and feel love for one another. It's a song we can share together as one, with no color, race, or creed. The song's melody and rhythm flow nicely together and have a delightful beat and tempo. The recording quality and mix of the song give it a modern folk sound where you can either sit back relax and enjoy the music or slowly dance and sway to as well. No matter who you are or where you come from you can celebrate the season with “On a Cold Winter’s Night” by Blujon.
