Von Doba - Mindless Mob
Rock, Pop, Progressive
Texas, United States
Overall Impression: Every now and again, a song comes along that violently throws the rule book out of the window and hysterically laughs in the face of convention, Von Doba's mesmerizing offbeat experimental prog-rock track "Mindless Mob" is one such tune. Bursting at the seams with a profound sense of creative eccentricity and chock full of bizarre twists and turns, "Mindless Mob" is a hypnotically wild and kooky musical endeavor that is quite unlike anything I've experienced before, and that's saying something. Von Doba has cooked up a truly outlandish, and rather frightful, piece of experimental rock writing that absolutely refuses to conform to any one particular style or genre, in fact, "Mindless Mob" is about as against the grain as you can possibly get, and it's all the better for it.
Strongest Point(s): It's safe to say that it's getting increasingly difficult to sound in any way unique nowadays, pick any song at random from the radio or private music collection and you'll most likely think of at least one other song that sounds eerily similar, however, in the case of "Mindless Mob", this is most certainly not the case. From the intriguing lyrical themes and the grand vocal theatrics that deliver them to the scarily unpredictable nature of the arrangement and its endless cavalcade of kooky melodies and rhythmic erraticness, "Mindless Mob" follows its own path, and whilst you'd be mad to follow it yourself, you can't help but feel compelled to explore its strange world further.
Target Audience Appeal: This is certainly a hard one to place, but I believe that adds to the undeniable uniqueness of the track. Lovers of experimental concept rock will most likely connect with this the most.
Artist target suggestions: Mindless Self-Indulgence, Horse The Band, Caligula's Horse, Green Jelly, Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Secret Chiefs 3, Les Claypool, Primus, The Les Claypool Brigade, Oysterhead, Nuclear Rabbit, That 1 Guy
